The Atlanta Braves did not meet expectations in 2024.

They could be losing a key contributor in free agency, but his replacement could be on the trade block.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers polled 18 Major League Baseball executives and the Braves were among top vote-getters to trade for Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet.

The Braves would use Crochet to replace Max Fried if he departs in free agency.

"Members of our panel who picked the Braves see Crochet as a replacement if Fried leaves in free agency," wrote Rogers.

"Atlanta and Chicago already have connected on trades since Chris Getz took over as White Sox GM, which could help in laying the groundwork of a deal this winter." Crochet was an All-Star in 2024 after making the transition to a starting pitcher.

Spotrac projects him to sign a six-year, $130 million deal when he hits free agency after the 2026 season.

Crochet's club control and talent could demand a haul in a trade.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale revealed that the White Sox plan to move Crochet this winter.

"No already-employed player was sought after more at these GM meetings than Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet, who struck out 209 batters in 146 innings and earned only $800,000 last season," wrote Nightengale.

"The White Sox have openly told teams hes available and are expected to trade him by the end of the winter meetings, with the Philadelphia Phillies and Dodgers the most aggressive." Fried has spent his entire career with the Braves.

However, he will be pursued by many teams in free agency as he is one of the best available pitchers.

He is a two-time All-Star and had a 3.25 ERA in 2024.
